Project: Noise Wall at Kiama Princes Highway

Asset Owner: Roads & Maritime Services (RMS)

Wall Type: Concrete Barrier and Acrylic Panel Noise Wall

Scope: Roads and maritime services engaged GC Civil to design and construct a noise wall to be installed on the southbound princes highway at Kiama, to help mitigate highway noise for the adjoining residents.

Project Details:

  • Noise barrier 213m long and 2.5m high built on the eastern side of the Princes Highway, starting south of the Bland Street overpass.
  • 20mm thick clear acrylic sheeting with anti-bird strike lines.
  • Acrylic barrier was installed on top of a slip-formed concrete safety barrier.
  • Traffic management was required on Prices Highway, involving long-term closure of left lane and the shoulder for the duration of the works, managed by GC Civil.
  • Project challenges included working on busy Princes Highway, with consistent traffic all day. The work space was quite narrow, due to steep batter on eastern side of wall, and all works were required to be done from the road.
  • Completed before time and within budget to RMS Specifications including R271, G10, B80.

I'm delighted to say work was complete more than a month ahead of schedule... should be congratulated for their efficiency in getting the job done before time and within budget.
